An award-winning Ashford garage will be looking for a new display cabinet after picking up another top prize and being shortlisted for yet more success.

D&D Autos, a first and second-generation family business with a 35-year history, followed up last year’s success in the Automechanika Garage of the Year Awards with another win at the 2019 event, held at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.

While last year the business, based in Moat Way, Ashford, was named Best Large Garage, this year saw Matthew Pestridge, son of founder Derek Pestridge, walk away with the coveted Automechanik of the Year award. The garage was again shortlisted in both categories.

“It’s a shame we narrowly missed out on doing the double in the Garage of the Year category, but we are incredibly proud of Matthew for his individual success,” commented Operations Manager Lorraine Fuller, Derek’s daughter and Matthew’s sister.

Last year Matthew, who is D&D Autos’ senior diagnostic technician, narrowly missed out on being named Top Technician 2018 after a nationwide competition that saw five finalists undergo a series of fault-finding challenges.

The close family links that have helped D&D Autos become one of the largest independent garages in Kent has also seen it shortlisted in the National Family Business Awards 2019.

D&D Autos, which prides itself on a high level of customer care and quality workmanship, will be taking on ten other companies from across Great Britain and Ireland in the Manufacturing and Engineering category.

The National Family Business Awards, founded ten years ago to highlight the contribution made to the economy by family businesses, will be announced at a ceremony planned for 13 July at Wembley Stadium.

The Ashford garage has won a number of top awards in the past, including Large Garage/Garage Chain of the Year in the CAT Awards 2017. It was also named Business of the Year in the 2015 annual Kent Invicta Chamber Awards.
